I'm not a big fan of steak and I could easily give up beef for the rest of my life if I needed to. Please forgive me for ever believing that because the steak here is heavenly melt in your mouth perfection. It's one of the best, if not the best meals I've ever had in my life. I thought it was better than the even more expensive Wagyu Kobe beef I tried at two different restaurants in Kobe. I am making it my mission to come back here the next time I am in Japan.

Absolutely delicious - I had the wagyu cutlet, and it was exceptional. The staff was also incredibly kind and accommodating. So good I'm considering going back tomorrow to try the wagyu sirloin...

The understated decor creates an intimate dining experience where the food is the star of the show. You have a front row seat to watch your food being prepared, and each course stands on it's own. We had the Standard set with the Wagyu filet. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Staff was outstanding. The manager went out of his way to ask where we were staying, and be sure we knew how to get back to the subway station. Above and beyond. And again, to be clear, the food was amazing!

Everything is really fantastic, fish, salad and especially the meat. Staff is very polite and helpful. I've loved it and if I ever come to Kyoto again I'll visit Hafuu for sure. Obrigado from Portugal.

Awesome Wagyu dinner. We had the Special Dinner Course and the Dinner Course - there were eight dishes in total for each course, all of them delicious. The meat is soft and served in a way Europe has never seen before. The staff is very attentive and helpful. They speak English! It’s recommended to make a reservation.

Was interested in the wagyu beef sandwich because we saw it on a video on Facebook. It was located in a very quiet residential area. The restaurant itself has 2 branches very close to each other, price and quality are the same for both but one is more rustic and the other more modern. I think it will be better to make reservations, however we did walk in and made it 🤣 the sandwich lives up to expectation, or I have to say more. The beef was perfectly cooked and ideally marinated. The sandwich tastes heavenly well, definitely recommended. English menu available, they're specialized on beef cuisine, also has red wine to accommodate your beef cuisine. Staffs are super nice.

Fantastic meal. The meat was really tasty. The ambiance was friendly yet romantic. Great selection of cocktails. You can’t go wrong going to this place but you need a reservation.

Fine dining experience, the Sirloin steak was awesome “ I ordered it medium well “ , a bit pricey but worthy, highly recommended ❤️

Absolute meat perfection. Stopped for a meal and was glad they had a takeout option. A friend recommended i try it and they were right about the quality. Top tier meat restaurant. Delicious in every way. Great staff.

Great food but could spend a bit more time between the courses. We had the original set menu and finished in 1.5h.

Highly recommend sitting at the counter. Food was great and I would have returned a second night but they were closed (closed on Wed. so plan ahead). Reservations are a must. Very lovely and gracious staff. I ordered from the a la carte menu and ended up with far more food than I could eat. The several price fixe options provide really good alternatives. My daughter ordered a set menu so we could compare. Everything was done perfectly and was so delicious. The presentation was thoughtful and stylish. Go there!

Best steak in Japan bar none. 10 out of 10. Overseas chefs should come here to see how a great steak is cooked and presented. The kitchen is open. The rest of the menu like the escargot, ceaser salad and the scollap gratin only rate a 9.5 out of 10

This is my favorite restaurant so far in Japan 🇯🇵. The food is simple and just perfection. If you’re Kyoto, Japan... you must visit this place. Make reservation or come early.

Wow.. Just wow. Expensive? Definitely, but well worth the money if you wanna taste something amazing. I got the Wagyu sandwich and it honestly blew me away. Not a huge serving so you will have to savour every bite. Mmmmm

Awesome Wagyu steak at reasonable prices. The steak came with a garlic pasta, rice and salad which was excellent. The sandwich also tasted lovely although I preferred eating each bit individually so as not to contaminate the lovely steak with ketchup and mayo. Definitely recommend. One of the best value high quality steaks around

My group of friends wanted to have one nice meal while in Japan and I think this was definitely the route to go. You are going to spend a nice chunk of change here but I think for a 5 course meal or so and the best beef I have ever had in my life it was totally worth it. They have an English menu and you will get to try a Wagyu beef a number of different ways. It is a bit nice here and you might look a tad out of place in jeans and a t-shirt so beware.

Excellent spot to discover Wagyu beef. Quite touristy, but that isn’t a bad thing in this case. Just go for the beef in the main course, you’ll be amazed. The taste is out of this world and the meat melts on your tongue. I wouldn’t spend my money on the full menu, you can eat salads and soup elsewhere. Meat was only 130g so don’t come in too hungry ;-)

Wagyu steak at affordable price and decent portions of $50 each at lunch. Owner comes from family of meat shop (100 years) so can offer better pricing.

Wagyu Sando take out. Bought it to eat in the hotel room together with a very good beer. It is just the finest in its class. Worth each and every Yen.

We came to Hafuu after a good tip from a local. It's located a bit off centrum, but in a nice calm neighbourhood. You eat while food is prepared. This is the best meal I've had when it comes to eating wagyu or steaks in general. Highly recommended!

Special dinner set menu was amazing. One of the best steaks I've had and for a great price (Â¥13000). Staff is proficient in English. You'll see a mix of locals and foreigners here. Limited space so reservations recommended and the meal took nearly 2hrs. A must visit when in Kyoto.

Greatest sandwich of my life. I will come back periodically to update if this changes but right now I cant stop thinking about it. I split the original with my wife and so I went back two days later on our last day in Kyoto and they were shut, and now so is my heart.

My friend and I found this restaurant from Google map. I didn't agree to come at first because the food look Abit sad in photo. The interior and the food look much better in real place. The service was excellent. You need to understand that Japanese people tend to get shy away and didn't know what to react to English speaker especially if you look different than them. They did put their best effort to talk to my friend who didn't speak Japanese and I think that is really sweet. The portion appear small but it is very filling. The price seem to be expensive but I could assure you it worth the value.

Simply amazing Japanese food

I don't know when did gyukatsu start and was famous, best restaurant of gyukastu in kyoto is here. also the price is expensive. but if you go to Japan and have to eat gyukatsu I recommend hafuu restaurant. but because of their expensive price, I like lunch menu. ah! gyu-katsu is beef katsu and gyu is japaness high grade beef(cow). They sale a lot of menu. Gyu-katsu, Gyu-steak, Don(pig)-katsu, katsu-sand(sandwich), beef stew, gyu-don, hamberg-steak is their famous menu. I remember Gyu-katus and Gyu-steak's price is just about 5000Â¥(korean price is 50,000 and US dollar is over $50). You have to remember 2 word "Expensive and delicious" We don't have any choice. If you hope to eat it your wallet will be light, if you wouldn't eat it, you have to comeback kyoto. I love there and whenever I go to kyoto I go there. This isn't lying. really really I love there.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Tucked away in a quiet back street but well worth seeking out. We ordered the Wagyu fillet steak and were blown away but the exceptional quantity of the food. They didn’t seem to have fries on the menu but the chef said it was fine and prepared hand cut fries especially for us. Talk about going the extra mile with customer service!!! Staff were very friendly and welcoming. A few of the staff spoke excellent English which helped us out with our limited Japanese! Highly recommended restaurant and one of the best meals we had in Japan
